Nutrient analyses are preformed on a three channel continuous flow auto-analyzer with nutrient concentrations determined by the colour produced when an indicator dye is added to each sample. (Kristina Brown)
An example of nutrient concentrations (Nitrate, Phosphate, Silicate) in the upper 350m of the water column in a shelf to deep ocean transect north of Barrow Alaska. This transect illustrates the high nutrient concentrations found in Pacific Ocean derived waters. The waters that transit the shallow shelves during winter, termed Pacific Winter Waters, are associated with the highest nutrient concentrations found at depths of 100 - 200m. (Kristina Brown)
