A close-up of automatic oilers on the 4-ram hydraulic system that moves the 20-ton rudder. This was taken in the steering gear compartment, which is apparently one of the largest on any ship in the world, consistent with the ‘overbuilt’ approach the Louis’ designers took in the times before more precise computer-based design.
