Elementary Public School of Seltjarnarnes Community, Iceland

Grunnskoli Seltjarnarnes is a public school for children in Seltjarnarnes community of age 6-16. There are a total of about 640 pupils. The school is located in two buildings 500 meters apart, which worked as two separate schools from 1974-2004.

The first school in Seltjarnarnes community, Myrarhusaskoli, was established in 1875. In 1974, a new school was built for the oldest children, the teenagers, in Myrarhusaskoli and the school got a new name, Valhusaskoli, which operated in a new building. Valhusaskoli was an independent school for 30 years, from 1974-2004, until it was united to Myrarhusaskoli again and together again they got the new name, GRUNNSKOLI SELTJARNARNESS. There are 80 teachers and 50 other staff.
