R/V Oceanus Shipboard Computing: Electronic Mail

Scientists joining the ship are provided with a shipboard email account.   They can receive mail at their account name, or firstinitiallastname.  For example, sci1@oceanus.whoi.edu, or fmagellan@oceanus.whoi.edu are both valid email address formats.
 
Email transmissions are made via satellite internet or satellite modem.  The frequency of email transmissions depends on signal availability.  Transmissions are typically made at least 3-5 times per day.

There is a default size limitation of 10 kbytes per message to avoid interrupted transmissions and high satellite costs.  If you expect to send or receive large emails, please contact the SSSG technician.
