In addition to exploring the city and enjoying delicious coffee and food, all of us have begun to get acquainted with the R/V Melville, it’s layout and facilities, and many of the scientists and crew aboard for the upcoming cruise across the South Pacific.  I have gotten lost more than once while aboard the ship, and am struggling to learn everyone’s names.  Over the last two days, everybody on the P6 cruise has worked to load the R/V Melville with all the equipment, fuel, food and innumerable other items that might be needed over the next six weeks of cruising, collecting, sampling, analyzing, eating, sleeping, and living…not an easy task, especially when temperatures outside the ship are near 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
