With our final sampling station finishing up last evening around 11pm, the science team has switched gears and spent the entire day packing up, cleaning, and dismantling the equipment we’ve been using these past 5 weeks. It is amazing to be reminded of how bare the lab spaces were before our boxes were unpacked at the start of the program. With only two days to disassemble the science program, the lab and deck spaces are a bee hive of well coordinated activity.  All the members of the science party are working hard to catalogue and pack up the final samples, complete data entry and reports, and box up equipment. Some of our gear will stay on the ship for the 2014 program, some will travel south with the scientists on Monday’s flights, while the rest will stay on the vessel to be shipped later from St. John’s. The precious cargo of samples that we’ve been collecting is also being carefully catalogued and stored in various temperature controlled spaces on the ship. At the end of the long day the entire crew (ship and science) gathered in the helicopter hangar for a celebratory BBQ, toasting the end of another great field season on the Louis!
