We’ve finished all science activities and are steaming through Amundsen Gulf (south of Banks and Victoria islands) on our way to Kugluktuk, Nunavut. On Thursday morning in Kugluktuk, everyone will disembark and the ship’s crew will change over.

As a final summary, Chief Scientist Bill Williams presented an outline of the completed science operations, including preliminary analyses of the new ocean and sea-ice data we have collected. The ocean data indicate sustained high levels of relatively fresh water in the upper Beaufort Gyre water column, warm ocean temperatures near the surface that coincide with low sea-ice area, and parts of the water column continuing to exhibit corrosiveness to calcium carbonate. This fall, scientists from around the world will analyze the data in the context of measurements from other years as well as atmospheric wind data and satellite information on sea-ice cover.
